SmartCap Green Fund expands investment opportunities for fund managers focused on green transition
SmartCap is stepping up its investments for greentech sector in Estonia by inviting venture capital and private equity fund managers with infrastructure strategy to fundraise from SmartCap Green Fund. The aim is to increase capital availability for companies developing and deploying breakthrough green technologies that contribute to the green transition and resilience.
SmartCap Green Fund has been an active player in Estonia’s investment landscape since 2023, providing essential capital to innovative greentech startups and supporting the launch of dedicated green technology investment funds. According to Sille Pettai, CEO of SmartCap, the demand for funding in this sector continues to grow.
“Developing technologies that help us meet our climate and sustainability goals, but also increase resilience through energy and raw material independence — is incredibly important. Estonia’s greentech companies are growing fast, setting up demo plants and production lines, which is a crucial step in bringing these innovations into everyday use,” said Pettai.
To support this next phase of growth, SmartCap Green Fund is now also backing funds that focus on later-stage greentech and green infrastructure projects — strategies that align with Estonia’s long-term sustainability goals. The fund is prepared to commit between €5 million and €30 million per fund and SmartCap Green Fund will remain open until mid-2026 or as long as it has uncommitted resources available that are foreseen for fund investments.
SmartCap Green Fund invests in line with the EU Taxonomy for sustainable activities, supporting projects that help reduce emissions, improve resource efficiency, cut pollution, and protect biodiversity. All investments must also meet the “Do No Significant Harm” principles to ensure environmental standards are not compromised.
SmartCap does not provide state aid and SmartCap Green Fund invests pari passu with independent private investors, requiring that at least 30% of the total investment be committed by private investors at the same time and on the same terms.
